How do I fix Microsoft Office Sign in problem? ›

For Office apps installed on a Windows PC:

Select File > Account (or Office Account if you're using Outlook). If you're not already signed in, click Sign In. In the Sign in window, type the email address and password you use with Office.

If you're constantly being prompted to log in to your Microsoft account there are a few ways this can be resolved: You can reset the Windows Credential Manager. For Word or Outlook you can sign out of your account once then it should resolve. For Outlook you can change the security settings.

Restart your computer or device. Check if your account is locked and use Microsoft's automatic help to unlock it. Delete your antivirus or disable Windows Defender Antivirus. Perform basic recovery steps, such as resetting your password or creating a new account.

Microsoft Account vs Office 365 Account

If you are already logged into an account, click your photo or name icon in the upper right corner. Click Sign Out: Click Switch to a different account.

Disable the Always prompt for login option: Open Outlook and navigate to File > Account Settings > Account Settings. Select your email account and click Change. Click More Settings, then navigate to the Security tab. Uncheck the box next to Always prompt for login credentials and click OK.

Choose Start, and start typing the name of the application, like Word or Excel. Search opens automatically as you type. In the search results, click the application to start it. For Microsoft 365, Office 2021, Office 2019, or Office 2016, choose Start and scroll to the Office application name, like Excel.

Go to the Outlook.com sign-in page and select Sign in. Enter your email address or phone number and select Next. On the Enter password page, clear Keep me signed in. Enter your password and select Sign in.

When you create a Microsoft account, you can use any email address as your username, including addresses from Outlook.com, Yahoo! or Gmail.
